Image descriptions
TL;DR: IDs are important because they make posts with images (pictures, gifs, videos, etc.) accessible! They benefit sighted and nonsighted people alike, e.g. those who are disabled/neurodivergent, have slow Internet, etc.
I began writing IDs in April 2021 after a power outage caused images on Tumblr to load way too slowly for my liking. I generally don't need IDs myself, but I realized that day how frustrating it can be to not know what's going on within images, and I don't want anyone else going through that same frustration if I can help it
as previously stated, I encourage anyone who sees this to start adding IDs to posts too—or, if you don't have the time and energy to write your own, to at least check the notes for IDs and reblog described versions of posts instead
even if none of your followers need IDs, some of their followers (or their followers' followers) might—posts get spread around on Tumblr all the time, and you never know who's going to see (or… not be able to see) a post you share
all of my IDs* are free to copy, edit, and paste into other posts as needed. If I reblog your post and add an ID, you're welcome to copy it into your original post for greater accessibility
